In Jammu and Kashmir, polling has begun for the first phase of DDC elections and panchayat bye-elections on Saturday. A total of 1,427 candidates are in the fray in these elections and seven lakh voters will be able to exercise their franchise.Seven lakh voters will exercise their franchise
State Election Commissioner K K Sharma said that 2,146 polling booths have been set up for smooth polling in the first phase. Sharma told reporters that seven lakh voters will be able to exercise their franchise in the first phase. Out of these seven lakh voters, there are 3.72 lakh voters in Kashmir division and 3.28 lakh voters in Jammu division.
Sharma said that there are a total of 280 constituencies for district Development Council (DDC) elections in the Union territory. Out of these, 43 areas will go to polls in the first phase from 7 am to 2 pm. The election commissioner has appealed to the people in the wake of covid-19 to wear masks at the polling booth and follow the social distance following the guidelines issued by the Election Commission.
