Rahul Gandhi is an Indian Politician & an MP from Wayanad, a constituency in Kerala. He has also been in the post of president of INC from 2017 December to 2019 July. He has also served as the Chairperson of the Indian Youth Congress & National Students Union of India.

Early Life of Rahul

Rahul was born on June 19, 1970, in Delhi. He was born to Rajiv Gandhi & Sonia Gandhi. Rahul completed his schooling at Doon School, Dehradun. He has a sister named Priyanka Gandhi. Indra Gandhi, who was the prime minister at that time & grandmother of Rahul was assassinated by the Sikh extremist.

Because of all these threats, they both were homeschooled after that. In 1989, he went to Harvard University for graduation. In 1991, his father, Rajiv Gandhi was also assassinated by the LTTE & again because of that he had to change his college. He was transferred to Rollins College. He changed his name there, only the security agencies & college officials knew his real name.

Before joining politics, he was working at Monitor Group. In 2002, He started his own company, Backops Services Private Limited, after returning to India. This company used to deal with foreign companies to supply the Indian Armed Forces.

Political Career of Gandhi

In 2004, Gandhi started actively taking part in politics. He fought his first elections from the seat of Amethi. It is a seat that is mostly acquired by the Gandhi family only. He won from the same seat in 2009 & 2014. He led the 2014 election campaign. Indian National Congress faced the worst defeat ever in this election. They only won 44 seats in that election. He became the leader of the Congress party after his mother stepped down from the post. In 2019, again Congress lost the election miserably and only won 52 seats. They were not even able to claim the position of the opposition. Gandhi resigned from the post of the President of Congress.

Like any other politician, Rahul Gandhi’s life has been full of controversies. He was criticized a lot when his name didn’t match the name in his M Phil degree.
He once said that Hindu extremists are more dangerous than Islamic terrorists.
He was also charged with raping a girl although those charges were later dropped by the supreme court.
He once said that poverty is only a state of mind because which he faced backlash.
He once stated that “chowkidar chor hai”. He was punished for contempt of the apex court. He was ordered to file an apology letter. Instead of 1, he filed 2 affidavits. The Supreme court gave him a second chance due after which Abhishek Manu gave an apology on the behalf of Rahul Gandhi.
