About – (Aditi Rao Hydari) After meeting and becoming friends with Leela Samson at the age of 11, Hydari decided to pursue a career in Bharatanatyam dancing. During her time with Samson’s dance troupe, Spanda, she shared her knowledge of dance with pupils and travelled across India and the world to perform for audiences. Hydari finished filming her first acting movie, Sringaram, in the early years of 2004. In it, she played a devadasi, a temple dancer from the 19th century.
Known bharatanatyam dancer Padmini Ravi served as both the film’s producer and director in the Tamil film directed by Sharada Ramanathan. Following Ramanathan’s observation of Hydari’s dance performance at a conference, he decided to cast her in the part because of her “vulnerable and fresh face” and her likeness to the dancer Shobana.
