Synonymous with the entry of Assisted Reproduction Technology in India, Dr Hrishikesh Pai is known for his genuine and unrelentess contribution in the field of IVF.
Dr. Hrishikesh Pai, one of India’s leading IVF specialists and harbinger of Assisted reproduction technology (ART) in India, has significantly contributed to India’s growing infertility issue. The year 1991 marks his foray into the field of IVF, and since then, he has been and is contributing to resolving to challenge IVF issues.
Over the past couple of decades, infertility in India has been on the rise, with nearly 27.5 million couples affected by it as per the statistics from The Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction, implying one out of six couples experiencing fertility issues.
Dr Hrishikesh Pai established the Bloom IVF centre, which has expanded to 8 cities across India. Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai and Fortis Hospitals in New Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Mohali and Navi Mumbai. He offers specialized IVF services to needy patients at the IVF Centre in D Y Patil Medical College, Navi Mumbai.
Dr Pai states,‘Becoming parents is a cherished dream of every human being and my contribution in helping infertile couples become parents is a humble attempt towards making them realize their dream’
He is credited with introducing many innovative IVF technologies in India, especially assisted laser hatching, ovarian tissue freezing for cancer patients, spindle view, oocyte freezing, IMSI and embryoscope.
Recently, he installed the latest version of Embryoscope 8 from Vitrolife international
at Bloom IVF, Mumbai, which is the first of its kind in India. Incidentally, he recalls having installed the older version of Embryoscope in 2012, which was then the only one in Asia.
On the day of the installation of the Embryoscope 8, he expressed that for the past 27 years, he has been committed to helping IVF patients achieve high pregnancy rates at the earliest and will continue to do so. His motto has been to “do the best for your patients, whatever be the costs involved.”
He is the President-Elect of The Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India – FOGSI, the professional organization representing practitioners of obstetrics and gynecology in India which has nearly 37000 plus individual members pan India. Dr Pai is also the Director of Corporate Affairs of the International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS) since March 2019.
In a recent FOGSI-Manyata initiative, Dr Hrishikesh D. Pai expressed his satisfaction at working in cooperation with NABH towards improving the quality of maternity care and its access to every eligible woman in India. He stated, The women in India should receive quality maternity services and care whenever and wherever they need it. Through this initiative, we aim to raise the bar of maternal care available in India.
In India, he is the Founder and Managing Director of Bloom IVF Centre, one of the most well-established IVF clinics. Bloom IVF Centre, which has a notable presence pan India. Dr Pai believes in sharing his knowledge with passionate young doctors. He is associated with the D Y Patil Medical College and has been a postgraduate teacher at the MD and DNB examinations, National Board New Delhi. He has also trained more than 1000 gynecologists. He has authored many articles and research papers on IVF and ART technology in national and international books and journals. A prolific speaker, he has delivered more than 500 guest lectures across the globe, including in India.
As rightly said by Dr Hrishikesh Pai, ‘“Recognition is secondary. I think it is important for people to know who I am so that they know of my work, which can only be beneficial to the efforts.”
