Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar Cephus, popularly known as Cardi B. She is an American rapper and songwriter famous for her outspoken lyrics and aggressive flow. Forbes has recognised her as one of the most influential rappers of all time.

EARLY LIFE

On 11 October, 1992, Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar was born in Manhattan’s Washington Heights. She was born in Trinidad to a mother of African and Spanish ancestry and a Dominican father. Cardi was born and raised in the South Bronx’s Highbridge area. She also spent much time with her paternal grandmother in Washington Heights. She attended Herbert H. Lehman High School’s Renaissance High School for Musical Theater & Technology. Cardi B worked at a Tribeca Amish deli in her teenage years. She was fired from her job and started working as a dancer at the strip club across the street to escape poverty and domestic violence. Cardi B has said that, in many respects, becoming a stripper has improved her life.

CAREER

Cardi B debuted in season six of the VH1 reality television programme Love & Hip Hop: New York in 2015. Her debut album, Invasion of Privacy (2018), was named Billboard’s best female rap album of the 2010s and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. It was widely praised and became the first female rap album nominated for Album of the Year in 15 years, making Cardi B the only female to win the Grammy Award as a solo artist for Best Rap Album. With “Bodak Yellow,” the album’s lead single, Cardi B became the first female rapper to top the Hot 100 with a solo song in the twenty-first century. It also produced two number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.

PERSONAL LIFE

Cardi B started dating fellow rapper Offset at the beginning of 2017. On 27 October 2017, they exchanged vows. Cardi B announced her pregnancy on 7 April 2018, during her second appearance on Saturday Night Live. On 10 July 2018, Cardi B gave birth to her daughter. Cardi B reportedly filed for divorce in September 2020, but it was later discovered that they had reconciled. Cardi B announced that she was expecting a son, her second child, in June 2021.
