Ashok Gehlot is a prominent politician from Rajasthan. He was born on the 3^rd ^of May, 1951. He became Rajasthan NSUI President when he was only 23 years old in 1974, he continued to lead NSUI in Rajasthan as president for the next 5 years and became a household name.

He is popularly known as “jaguar” in political circles because of his political tricks and his father Laxman Singh Gehlot, who was a famous magician of his time. His father used to travel to different states to showcase his talent and was not involved in any political activity making Ashok Gehlot a self-made leader. He is a well-educated leader with having Master’s degree in Economics.

POLITICAL CAREER

He created history when he was sworn in as Rajasthan’s Chief Minister on 17^th December 2018 for the third time, he held this post earlier also from December 1998 to 2003 for the first time and second time from 2008 to 2013. He has been elected as a member of parliament five times in the 7^th, 8^th, 10^th, 11^th, and 12^th Lok Sabha. He has also been a member of the Rajasthan Legislative assembly five times. In his five-decade-long stellar political career, he has seen many high and low tides but he stood the test of time and came out as one of the major modern Indian political giants.

He has held a lot of major positions throughout his career becoming Union Minister of State for Tourism and Civil Aviation in 1984, he became Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, President in 1994, and stayed in the post till 1999. He stayed in the post of All India Congress Committee’s General Secretary for 15 years, starting from 2004 to 2019.
