Kailash Kher recently flatly refused a request to sing spontaneously at an event in Delhi. He asserted that it is inappropriate to abruptly ask an artist to “sing a couple of lines,” as doing so undermines their dignity.
The incident occurred during a leadership summit held at the Taj Palace, when the host asked him to sing something for the audience. Visibly uncomfortable with the request, Kailash Kher took to the microphone to voice his sentiments. He stated that artists should not be viewed merely as tools for entertainment or as ‘jokers.’
Kailash Kher explained his point by giving the example of Sachin Tendulkar, saying no one would suddenly ask him to hit a six. In the same way, artists should perform when they feel ready, not when forced. He has given many popular songs in his career, and he sees music as a form of spiritual practice.
