One such woman who established her name in a sector that is dominated by men is Suchi Mukherjee. She is the creator and CEO of LimeRoad, a women-focused e-commerce platform for apparel that is rapidly gaining popularity. We shall talk about Suchi Mukherjee’s journey to success as one of India’s most successful businesswomen in this article.
In 1973, Suchi was born into a middle-class family in Haryana. She earned her degree in Economics from St. Stephens College in Delhi. She traveled to the UK after receiving her diploma to complete her master’s degree in finance and economics at the London School of Economics. Suchi began her profession at the age of 25 shortly after completing her education and spent five years working as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers. Then, she struggled.
. Later, she joined eBay, the US e-commerce giant, after working for Virgin Media first. The finest thing about Suchi Mukherjee’s success story is that despite holding several leadership positions inside cooperatives, she never felt content with her accomplishments and always yearned to start her own business. To pursue her aspirations, she established LimeRoad, an online retailer for women’s apparel requirements.
A vision of success
When she was in London for her second maternity leave, she had the idea to start LimeRoad. Shuchi came upon an outstanding piece of jewelry one day while flipping through a magazine. She liked the jewelry but was unable to purchase it right away or contact the seller because it was sourced. It was the moment when she realized the need for a technology that can make it easy to discover and purchase such products. Suchi Mukherjee’s success story actually begins when she started creating a blueprint for a startup in India. Once she got clarity and conviction in her idea, she returned to India in 2011 with a dream to create a global brand based in India.
This journey was not that easy for her and her family as her son was around 1 year old.
Apart from that, she encountered the complications with the Indian system including basic infrastructure, intricate bank processes, a complex company filing procedure, reliable internet connectivity and much more. However, she considered these complexities tiny obstacles and overcame them with immense courage.
Achievements
Suchi Mukherjee’s success story is incomplete without mentioning her achievements because her fame is not just limited to the founder and CEO of LimeRoad, she is now the e-commerce face of India. In 2018, she shared the stage with Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi at the “Start-up India-Stand up India” conference. Business Today declared LimeRoad ‘the coolest start-up of the year in 2015 and Suchi won the INFOCOM Women of the Year award in the same year. NDTV honored her with the Unicorn Start-up Award in 2016.
