The Srinagar-Jammu Highway which was closed for almost a week due to heavy snowfall was opened for traffic on Sunday.
The Officials said the 260km long highway is the only route which connects Kashmir to the entire country throughout the year.
He said that The traffic from Jammu to Srinagar has been allowed to pass through the highway at present.
The road was closed on January 3 due to heavy snowfall and landslides on the road. Several vehicles remained stranded for five days due to highway closure. The highway was cleared on Friday but only stranded vehicles were allowed to leave on Saturday.
Officials said, the improvement in weather also improved the condition of the road, which allowed fresh vehicular movement this morning. He said that the Mughal road, which passes through Shopian-Rajouri, an alternative route connecting the valley with Jammu, is also closed for traffic due to heavy snowfall in the area. He said, several areas of the valley, including Srinagar, experienced snowfall on Sunday morning, affecting flights at the airport.
