Jung Ho-Seok, popularly known by his stage name J-hope of BTS, is a South Korean singer, dancer, rapper, and songwriter. He joined Big Hit Entertainment ( changed to HYBES LABEL in march 2021 ). He made his singing debut as a member of the South Korean boy band BTS ( Bangtan Sonyeondan) in 2013. He is the leading dancer in the group.
Ho-Seok was born on 18 February 1994 in the Buk District of Gwangju, South Korea. He is the family’s younger son and has an elder sister, Jung Ji-woo. From an early age, he was very passionate about dancing. Thus he took dance classes for 6 years at Gwangju Music Academy till he entered his first high school when he auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment.
He auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment and became the third member to join the group after RM and Suga. On 1 March 2018, he released his first mixtape, Hope World, which became a massive hit after its release. The mixtape reached the rank 38 on the Billboard 200 chart, which made him the highest-ranking Korean solo act. On 29 September 2019, Jhope released “Chicken Noodle Soup” featuring the American singer Becky G.
He became the first member of the BTS to chart the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist outside the group when his song “Chicken noodle soup” ranked 81 on the chart. He was the group’s first member to start their solo career with his debut solo album “ Jack In The Box.” He was also the first artist from South Korea to headline the main stage at a major United States music festival, Lollapalooza, when he made his performance debut on the festival’s final day.
