A court has been informed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, was involved in a “criminal nexus” with “other co-accused” for “wrongful gain.” The CBI’s larger investigation into RG Kar’s alleged corruption includes this charge. Ghosh was taken out from his position following the August 9 assault murder of a learner specialist, a case in which Sanjay Roy, a city volunteer with the city police, is supposedly involved. The instance of the killed specialist is additionally being scrutinized by the CBI.
In connection with the corruption case, the CBI has also taken Biplab Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali into custody in addition to Sandip Ghosh. On September 3, the organization introduced these people under the watchful eye of the exceptional court in Alipur following their capture, as revealed by The Indian Express. The CBI explained to the court how, after Ghosh moved to Calcutta National Medical College and RG Kar, vendors Singha and Hazra benefited from receiving hospital contracts. Ghosh had known Singha and Hazra while he worked at Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. The agency also talked about how Ghosh treated his security aide, Afsar Ali, who was the fourth person arrested, with favoritism.
The court was informed that the contested contract involved RG Kar’s establishment of a café. M/s. Eshan Cafe, owned by Nargis Khanum, the wife of Afsar Ali Khan, who oversees the café’s operations, received the contract. The CBI claimed that the agreement was granted in a foreordained way, as M/s Eshan Bistro was the main firm gathering the specialized rules among the four bidders.
The CBI is also looking into whether Ali was involved in the alleged sale of biomedical waste.
