Axar was passionate about cricket from childhood only. Although he never thought to pursue it as a career. He wanted to be a mechanical engineer. It was his friend who persuaded him to play in the school cricket team as they were lacking a player.

He started playing in the ODI format on June 15, 2014. His first match was against Bangladesh. He was also part of the Indian Squad in the 2015 Cricket World Cup which was held in New Zealand & Australia. He played his first test match on February 13, 2021, & he took 7 wickets. He was the 9^th Indian player to take a five-wicket haul in his first test match. In his T20I match against New Zealand, he took 3 wickets at the cost of only 9 runs. He won the Man of the Match award for his performance.
