Journalist and human rights activist Arif Aajakia has claimed that Dhurendhar is based on real events. In an ANI interview, he said that many scenes in the film match what he personally witnessed while growing up in Karachi’s Lyari area.
Arif said he lived through the period shown in the movie and could relate to many of its events. He also shared that his parents were from Junagadh, Gujarat, and spoke about human rights issues in parts of Pakistan. The films became huge box-office hits, with Dhurendhar earning ₹1,307 crore worldwide and Dhurendhar 2 performing even better.
According to Sacnilk, Dhurendhar 2 collected around ₹1,149 crore net in India and approximately ₹1,813 crore worldwide, making it one of the biggest Indian blockbusters ever. The film featured Ranveer Singh in the lead role, supported by Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Gaurav Gera, and Rakesh Bedi. The first installment also featured Akshaye Khanna in a key role. Both films were directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Aditya Dhar under the banners of Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
