On Thursday, Nora Fatehi appeared before the National Commission for Women regarding the controversy surrounding the song ‘Sarke Chunar’ from the film KD The Devil. The song faced criticism for promoting obscenity and showing women in a wrong way. Nora Fatehi apologized to the Women’s Commission and said she never wanted to hurt anyone’s feelings.
Nora said that she understands her responsibility as an artist and will avoid doing such item songs in the future. She also promised to support the education of orphan girls and said giving back to society is important.
The controversy started after the Hindi version of “Sarke Chunar” was released on March 15. Many people on social media criticized the song’s lyrics and dance steps. Many deemed it an insult to women, prompting the filmmakers to subsequently remove the song from YouTube. Sanjay Dutt had also appeared before the Women’s Commission last month in connection with this same matter and had tendered his apology as well.
Several celebrities including Kangana Ranaut, Ravi Kishan, and Armaan Malik also weighed in on this controversy. The Women’s Commission asserted that the lyrics and visual presentation utilized in the song were objectionable and conveyed a misleading message.
