Veronica Anne Roth was born in New York and brought up in Barrington, Illinois, to Barbara Ross and Edgar Gustave Roth. Her mother is a painter and resides in Barrington. Her parents got divorced when she was five years old. Later, her mother married Frank Ross, a financial consultant for landscaping companies. She has two elder siblings, a brother and a sister. Both of them reside in the Chicago area. Her descendants were German and Polish.

The first book that Veronica Roth wrote was ‘Divergent’. She wrote it during her summer break of her senior year at Northwestern University and found an agent by the following March. The novel became extremely popular among the masses. She got the publishing rights before graduating in 2010, and the film rights were sold till mid-2011. Her first two novels’ Divergent’ and ‘Insurgent’ sold over five million copies by the end of 2013. Veronica Roth sold the film rights of ‘The Divergent Series’ to ‘Summit Entertainment. Divergent’s filming started in 2013, and the film was released in 2014. In 2013, she published the book ‘Four’ which consisted of four short stories written by Tobias’, the main character of Divergent, point of view.
