Sunidhi Chauhan is an Indian playback singer. She started performing at the age of 5 and started her career in Bollywood at age 13. Her debut song was for the film 'Shastra' released in 1996. She also won the singing reality show 'Meri Awaaz Suno' that year. 

SUNIDHI CHAUHAN'S EARLY LIFE

Sunidhi Chauhan was born in New Delhi, India, on August 14, 1983. Her father, Dushyant Kumar Chauhan, is an actor at the Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra in Uttar Pradesh. Her mother, a housewife, encouraged Chauhan to pursue a musical career. She has a younger sibling as well. Chauhan began performing at competitions and neighbourhood gatherings at four and was later persuaded to take singing seriously by her father's acquaintances. During that period, she served live events and practised "frequent riyaaz by listening to cassettes and CDs of popular music." She attended Greenway Modern School and lived in Dilshad Garden, Delhi, with her family members. She dropped out of school immediately after graduating to pursue a career in music.

SUNIDHI CHAUHAN CAREER

Chauhan was performing with the ensemble "Little Wonders" at the 40th Filmfare Awards in 1995 when late music director Aadesh Shrivastava heard her and recorded her voice for the film Shastra. She made her cinematic debut at eleven, performing the song "Ladki Deewani Dekho" with Udit Narayan. During the year, she won the first singing reality programme on DD National, Meri Awaz Suno, for which she received the "Lata Mangeshkar Trophy" as India's finest female vocalist. Chauhan appeared on four tracks from Ajnabee's album in 2001. PlanetBollywood's Mandeep Bhara complimented her performance of the Adnan Sami-duet "Mehbooba Mehbooba" as "effortless." Chauhan received her first Filmfare award for her performance of Omkara's "Beedi Jalaile" (2006). Following the song's critical and commercial success, Bipasha Basu, who appeared in it, stated: "Sunidhi is a deity. Her voice is quite strong. She provided another depth to my dance". This year, she earned two more nominations for "Soniye" from Aksar and "Aashiqui Main" from 36 China Town. In 2017, she recorded the 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships anthem, a song that combines Hindi, English, and Assamese lyrics with a rap delivered by her.
