Rohit Roy and filmmaker Sujoy Mukherjee are having a strong festival run with their short film Hunar, which continues to earn praise and awards at film events across India. The latest recognition came at the Cinedreams International Film Festival 2026 in Mumbai, where Rohit Roy received the Best Actor award and Sujoy Mukherjee was honoured with the Best Director trophy.
The short film has quietly built impressive momentum over the past few months. Earlier, Hunar was also named Best Social Film at the 16th Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival, adding another major achievement to its growing list of accolades.
Featuring Rohit Roy, Madhurima Tuli, and Vidhaan Sharma, the film tells a story that feels close to reality for many households. It looks at the pressure children often face when parents decide their future for them, sometimes ignoring what the child genuinely enjoys or excels at.
What has worked in the film’s favour is its simple and relatable storytelling. Instead of relying on exaggerated drama, Hunar keeps its emotions natural. The performances feel sincere, and the narrative stays grounded throughout, which has helped the film connect strongly with festival audiences.
So far, the film has collected more than 26 awards at both national and international festivals. It has been recognised at events like the Ahmedabad International Film Festival, Nashik International Film Festival, Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival, Delhi Shorts International Film Festival, Kolkata International Film Festival, the Lions Gold Awards, and the Golden Jury Film Festival among others.
For Sujoy Mukherjee, the appreciation for Hunar adds another successful chapter to his long association with cinema. He comes from one of the industry’s well-known film families, being the grandson of legendary filmmaker Sashadhar Mukherjee and the son of actor Joy Mukherjee. Alongside filmmaking, he also oversees operations at Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai.
Before stepping fully into direction, Mukherjee worked as an assistant director and also appeared in films such as Mehboob Mere Mehboob, Hum Hain Kamaal Ke, and Pyar Pyar. His earlier short film, Ab Mujhe Udna Hai, had also received a warm response and went on to win 39 awards at different film festivals.
With every new festival stop, Hunar is gaining more visibility and gradually turning into one of the most discussed short films on the circuit this year.
