Prashant Shetty, or Rishab Shetty as he is called in the film industry, is a well-known Indian actor and filmmaker specialising in Kannada films. He directed and starred in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful films Kirik Party and Kantara. Among his many honours is the 66th National Film Award for Best Children’s Film, which he received for his work on the film Sarkari Hi. Ramanna Rai, Pra. Shaale, Kasaragodu, Koduge.
EARLY LIFE
In the village of Keradi in the Kundapura taluk of the Udupi district of Karnataka, Rishab Shetty entered the world. He began his education at Kundapura and continued at Vijaya College, earning a Bachelor of Commerce. In Kundapura, he got his start acting in yakshagana plays. While at school in Bengaluru, he was also a theatre troupe member. His success in these roles prompted him to consider acting as a vocation.

CAREER
After finishing college, Rishab Shetty tried his hand at various professions, including selling water cans, working in real estate, and a hotel. He worked through the Government Film and TV Institute in Bangalore, earning a diploma in film direction. He started working various odd jobs in the film industry, including clap boy, spot boy, assistant director, etc. While working on one of these projects, he met Rakshit Shetty, who would become a close friend.
His breakthrough film role was in Thuglak. After appearing in Lucia, directed by Pawan Kumar, in a bit of a part as a police officer, he landed a significant part in Rakshit Shetty’s Ulidavaru Kandante. In 2016, he made his directorial debut with Ricky, starring Rakshit Shetty, which was met with lukewarm reviews and box office results. The following year, he directed Kirik Party, which became a critical and commercial success. Kirik Party Shetty’s Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale, which he directed, was well-received by both audiences and critics, earning it the 66th National Film Award for Best Children’s Film.
In the critically acclaimed Kannada film Bell Bottom (2019), he plays the male protagonist for the first time. After his breakthrough in Bell Bottom, Rishab Shetty’s next big part was as the gangster Hari from Mangaluru in Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana. Both reviewers and moviegoers praised the 2021 release Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, which included the acting talents of Rishab Shetty and Raj B. Shetty.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Kantara (film), which Rishab Shetty directed and acted in, was released by Hombale Films in 2022. The film Kantara was a massive success in 2022, earning enough money to be the second highest-grossing Kannada film of all time. After a successful debut in Kannada and widespread acclaim and audience interest, the film was dubbed into four more Indian languages. Several performers and film reviewers all across the country praised the film and Shetty’s performance in the lead role.
