About – In collaboration with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan, director Mani Ratnam helms the next Indian Tamil-language action, Historic Ponniyin Selvan: I. It is the first of two film adaptations of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan, and it was produced by Mani Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran for Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.

Storyline – The movie is set in the 9th century and shows the early years of Chola Prince Arulmozhivarman (Jayam Ravi), who became famous and became South India’s most powerful king at the time. A brave warrior prince from Vannar named Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan (Karthi) tells the story of his exciting journey through the Chola empire. Queen Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), also known as Manakini Devi and the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar (R. Sarathkumar), is on a mission to kill Aditya Karikalan (Vikram) and help her husband get to the throne. Arulmozhivarman finds out about plots against Nandini and other ministers and other secrets. The job of getting Arulmozhivarman from Sri Lanka to save the throne is given to Vandiyadevan.
