She was born in Paris. She was born to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby. They both are lawyers. Until age 5, Watson lived in Maisons-Laffitte near Paris. In 2003, she moved to Oxford with her mother and brother and went to the Dragon School. After going to Dragon School, she got admitted to Headington School in Oxford.
In February 2009, Watson dropped out, a year after finishing secondary school, to film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Parts 1 & 2. Later, she chose Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, to continue her studies. From there, she got graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature.

In 1999, the casting agents of the film Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone found Watson through her Oxford theatre teachers. Producers were impressed by her. They cast her as Hermione Granger. The film was highest grossing film in 2001. She was nominated for five awards for her performance in Philosopher’s Stone. From she won the young artist award for Leading Young Actress. Further, she continued to perform in all other parts of the film series Harry Potter.
