The Delhi High Court has stayed the strike of nursing staff at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, with immediate effect in this era of corona crisis in the country. The court also ordered the striking nurses of AIIMS to return to work immediately. The court has also fixed the date of January 18 for further hearing on the matter.

Justice Navin Chawla directs the union to restrain from strike after AIIMS said the grievances of the union were being considered by the authorities.
The order was given by a bench of Justice Naveen Chawla while hearing a petition filed by AIIMS. In the hearing the AIIMS administration said that the demands of nurses are being considered. On behalf of the hospital it was also said in the court that it is the time of corona epidemic so health workers cannot go on strike.
However, in the meantime on the complaints of nurses AIIMS has taken a positive stand and considered their problems. The AIIMS administration had also sent a presentation to the Nurses Union this evening for the meeting.

About 5,000 AIIMS nurses have been on indefinite strike since Monday afternoon against the hospital’s decision to recruit nursing officers on contract and various other demands. The demands of nurses include removing the anomalies of the 6th Pay Commission preventing the reinstatement of new nurses on contract and the issue of accommodation for nurses. Emergency services in the hospital have been affected due to the strike and serious patients are not being treated.
