UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the attack inside a mosque in Afghanistan. Many people died in the attack. His spokesman Stephen Dujarric said in a statement on Friday, “Those responsible for the attack should be held accountable.”
High Representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Moratinos also strongly condemned the attack. His spokesman, Nihal Saad, quoted him as saying that every form of violence and terrorism targeting religious places and devotees is condemnable.
A Friday bombing in a mosque in eastern Afghanistan killed 62 Namazis and injured more than 100. Officials said the blast occurred when a large number of namazis had arrived at the mosque to offer prayers on Friday.No terrorist organization has taken responsibility for these blasts yet.
The blast is being investigated. Currently, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, but many parts of the province, located 120 kilometers east of Kabul, are under Taliban and Islamic State occupation.
Ataullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province, said that several explosions took place inside the mosque of Jav Dara area of Haska Maina district. The roof of the mosque collapsed completely in the blast. Sohrab Qadri, a member of the provincial council of Nangarhar, said that more than a hundred people were injured, many of whom were in critical condition. In such a situation, the death toll is expected to increase.
