Representatives of the country’s premier digital news publishers today met Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Prakash Javadekar under the banner of the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA).
The delegation informed the minister about the steps taken by the organization since the formation of DNPA. The delegation also discussed the challenge of fake news and its impact on society. The minister also agreed that fake news is a serious issue. He appreciated the steps taken by DNPA members. At the meeting, DNPA Chairman Pawan Aggarwal explained how the digital units of traditional media institutions are setting high standards of editorial quality and serving the ever-increasing digital population in the country by providing reliable and accurate news in all languages.
The delegation of DNPA also discussed how to benefit from the possibilities of future strengthening digital industry by collaborating with the government and making information accessible to the common people. The meeting also discussed the issue of creating a better environment for news institutions and betterment of their responsibilities as an independent media in democratic society. The I&B Minister said that he is confident that through such initiatives by the responsible media organizations, there will be a lot of progress in delivering reliable news and information to the common people across the country.
DPNA is the organization of digital units of leading media institutions in the country. It has both PRINT and TV representation. The founding members of DNPA include Daily Bhaskar, India Today, NDTV, Hindustan Times, The Indian Express, The Times of India, Amar Ujala, Jagran New Media, Eenadu and Malayalam Manorama. These institutions have 70% digital readership in the country. Membership of DNPA can be owned by any publisher organization supporting the idea of an independent, responsible and reliable media.
