A new study claims that the corona virus can reach people’s brain through nose. With the help of the study findings, it will now be possible to find out why neurological symptoms are emerging in patients during the Covid-19 disease and how to treat them.
According to a study published in the Journal of Nature Neuroscience, SARS-COV-2 not only affects the respiratory system but also affects the central nervous system, causing different neurological symptoms such as sniffing, decreased taste recognition power, headaches, fatigue and dizziness, etc.
Although the latest study talks about the presence of viruses RNA and cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, it is not clear where the virus enters and how it spreads. Researchers from the University of Charite in Germany tested the respiratory tract (from the upper part of the throat to the nose). The study included 33 patients who died from covid-19. Out of them, 11 were women and 22 men.
They said the average death age was 71.6 years. The average time from the symptoms of covid-19 to their death has been 31 days. Researchers say they have found SARS-COV-2 RNA (genetic material of viruses) and proteins in the brain and respiratory tract.
