Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna told that Shahrukh Khan bought his first house Mannat from the advance earnings of film Guddu. I (Mukesh Khanna) played the role of Shahrukh Khan’s father in the 1995 film Guddu. Mukesh Khanna also said that Shahrukh respected me a lot off screen too.
Mukesh Khanna says: ‘At that time I was a bigger star than Shahrukh. At that time the entire responsibility of the TV show Mahabharata was on my shoulders. Shahrukh was yet to get big hit films. However, at that time he respected me a lot.’
Mukesh Khanna further says: It was told to me that Shahrukh was going to buy a house at that time. He had requested the director of the film Prem Lalwani to make an advance payment to him, so that the actor could buy a new house.
In those days one could buy a house for 34-35 lakh rupees. The first house (Mannat) that SRK bought was bought with the money he earned from the film Guddu. Lalwani did a great job and he gave the entire money to SRK in advance. SRK used to say that he has a house because of this film.’
Shahrukh Khan: Gauri designed the house because I was short of money
In an old interview, SRK also talked about buying his first house. He said, ‘I just want to say that when we bought the house (Mannat) in which we live now, it was beyond our capacity. We had to completely re-furnish this house. The designer who we wanted to modify this house, his expenses were very high. In such a situation, I asked Gauri to design the house.
