President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the proposal to make Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde (SA Bobde) the new Chief Justice of the country. Justice Bobde will take oath on 18 November as CJI. The current Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi is retiring on 17 November. Justice Bobde will be the 46th Chief Justice of the country.
Sharad Arvind Bobde was born in Nagpur. Justice Sharad Arvind earned his BA from Nagpur University nd LLB degree. In 1978, Justice Bobde joined the Bar Council of Maharashtra. After this, he continued to advocate in Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court.
In the bench of five judges hearing the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case daily, Justice S.K. S. Bobde is also included. Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice S.K. , Bobde, Justice Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Nazir. The hearing in this case has been completed, but the decision is yet to come. Apart from this, many have been involved in big decisions.
Sharad Arvind Bobde became part of the Bombay High Court bench on March 29, 2000 as Additional Judge. He was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court on 16 October 2012. On April 12, 2013, Justice Bobde became a Justice in the Supreme Court. Justice Bobde is also among the five-member bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi set up for the Ram temple-Babri Masjid case in Ayodhya. Justice S. A. Bobde will retire on April 23, 2021.
