Devarakonda Vijay Sai, whom we popularly address as Vijay Devarakonda or VD is a notable Indian film actor who works in the Telugu film industry. He achieved popularity with the critically and commercially successful, Arjun Reddy, and a larger section of the film audience recognizes him as the latter.
Early Life-
Vijay Devarakonda hails from Hyderabad, Telangana. His father was a director of television shows. His younger brother Anand also acts in films. Devarakonda holds a B. Com degree.
Rise to success-
Vijay started his career in the Telugu film industry in 2011 with the rom-com Nuvvila. He then made a few supporting appearances in Sekhar Kammula’s Life is Beautiful and Nevada Subramanyam in 2015.
However, as a lead, his maiden movie was Pelli Choopulu which earned the title of a commercial hit at the box office and also received the Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 64th National Film Awards.
Arjun Reddy and worldwide acclaim-
After another hit, Dwaraka, Devarakonda chanced upon his claim-to-fame movie in the year 2017 which was Arjun Reddy. He received the Filmfare Award for Best Actor-Telugu and it brought him worldwide applause from the audience for his impeccable performance. Not only down south, but he also got a lot of opportunities in the Bollywood Film Industry as well, establishing him as a sensational star.
He then did more movies in Telugu, like Ye Mantram Vesave, and Mahanati in 2017 which was also his first one in Tamil cinema; Geetha Govindam and Taxiwaala in 2018; Dear Comrade and World Famous Lover in 2019 and 2020 respectively which didn’t fair too well at the box office.
Bollywood Debut-
Devarakonda signed a film made both in Hindi and Telugu, helmed by Puri Jagannadh, co-starring Ananya Pandey with Karan Johar chairing as the producer, titled Liger, which released in 2022. His forthcoming projects include Jana Gana Mana, again directed by Jagannadh which will be seen in the cinemas in 2023, featuring Pooja Hegde.
