BJP leader Himanta Sarma will not be able to campaign for 48 hours

The Election Commission has banned the campaigning of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Himanta Biswa Sarma for 48 hours. The Commission says that this decision will come into force with immediate effect.

Sarma is also a minister in the Assam government. The Congress had made a complaint to the Election Commission.

The Congress alleges that Sarma had threatened to send Hagrama Mohilary, leader of the Bodoland People's Front, to jail at a rally.
