There is a lot of discussion these days about making laws against ‘Love Jihad’ in India. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra had also spoken of bringing a bill regarding the law in the next session. At the same time, the Uttar Pradesh government is also moving in the direction of taking strict steps against it. Meanwhile, National President of AIMIM and Rajya Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi termed it against the spirit of the Constitution.
Asaduddin Owaisi said, ‘Such a law is against sections 14 and 21 of the Constitution. Then abolish the Special Marriage Act. They should read the Constitution before talking about the law. ‘ He also said that BJP is adopting such tactics to divert the attention of youth from unemployment.
It’ll be gross violation of Articles 14 & 21, scrap Special Marriage Act then. They should study Constitution. Such propagation of hatred won’t work. The UP home department has drafted the proposed law against Love Jihad. This draft has been sent to the legislative department for testing. The word ‘Love Jihad’ is not mentioned in the draft. This is being called the Unlawful Prohibition Bill.A case called Love Jihad will be considered as illegal conversion and if convicted in such a case, a punishment of 5 to 10 years can be provided.
Meanwhile Central Government has not said anything in this matter but it has started in BJP ruled states. Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka or Gujarat have all started drafting to enact legislation on it. Congress-ruled states are opposing the introduction of such legislation by other states.
