Samuel was born to Roy Henry Jackson and Elizabeth Harriett in Washington D.C. He was a single child. His father never lived with them and he was an alcohol addict and lost his life to it. He only met him twice in his entire life. Jackson was raised by his mother and maternal grandparents. He initially wanted to be a marine biologist. He was doing his graduation from Morehouse College, Atlanta. There he joined an acting group just for some extra marks and that changed his life.
