People are turning to counselling more than ever before. Awareness has grown, the stigma has shrunk, and people are realising that talking to someone trained to actually help is one of the smartest investments. If you’re looking for a psychologist in Delhi who can help you work through anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, or anything in between, keep reading to take a closer look at the clinical psychologists genuinely doing the work in the city today.

Counselling Psychologist vs Clinical Psychologist: What’s the difference?

This is the question most people get stuck on. Here’s a quick breakdown.

A counselling psychologist typically works with everyday emotional concerns, things like stress, relationship issues, life transitions, and personal growth.

A clinical psychologist, on the other hand, is trained to assess, diagnose, and treat more complex mental health conditions like depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, and personality disorders.

In India, a clinical psychologist holds an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology and is registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

The line between the two isn’t rigid. Many people see clinical psychologists for issues that overlap with everyday counselling, and that’s perfectly fine. Having that extra training, experience and insight can really make a difference in your treatment.

What to look for in a clinical psychologist

Here are a few things you should keep in mind before booking your first session:

  • RCI registration. This is the legal credential for practising clinical psychology in India. It is a non-negotiable.
  • Qualifications you can verify. An M.Phil in Clinical Psychology from a recognised institution is the standard practising qualification. PhDs are a good addition, but not required.
  • Therapy approach. Look for evidence-based modalities like CBT, DBT, ERP, or ACT. A serious psychologist will be happy to tell you what they use and why.
  • The right fit. The most underrated factor. The relationship between you and your psychologist is the single most important thing that contributes to meaningful results.

Leading clinical psychologists in Delhi

1. Ms Lovleena Sharma

Ms Lovleena Sharma is an RCI-registered Clinical Psychologist at BetterPlace Health with an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology and over six years of experience.

She works across anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma, and is particularly known for her work with couples navigating relationship difficulties.

Her approach adapts the therapy to what actually works for you rather than following a fixed method, which makes her a strong choice if you’ve tried therapy before and felt it was too rigid.

2. Ms Shourya Gupta

Ms Shourya Gupta is the founder of Talk Nest in Lajpat Nagar, an RCI-registered Clinical Psychologist with an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology and over a decade of experience.

She trained at Max Super Speciality Hospital, VIMHANS, and Banaras Hindu University, and has worked extensively with children, adolescents, and young adults on emotional and behavioural concerns.

She is also skilled in psychometric assessments, including intelligence, learning disability, and personality testing, which makes her a good fit if you or someone in your family is looking for a structured diagnostic workup before starting therapy.

3. Ms Ayushi Paul

Ms Ayushi Paul is a RCI-registered Clinical Psychologist at BetterPlace Health with over five years of experience.

She works with anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma, and uses structured, evidence-based approaches like CBT and DBT. What sets her apart is how clear and focused her sessions feel; you’ll always know what you’re working on and why.

If you’ve ever felt that therapy is too vague or that you don’t know what progress looks like, Ms Paul’s approach is built specifically to address that.

4. Dr Komal Manshani

Dr Komal Manshani is a senior Clinical Psychologist with nearly 14 years of experience. She holds an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology from IHBAS, Delhi University, and a PhD in Psychology from Jamia Millia Islamia, and is RCI-registered since 2010.

She practices at Percept-Mood and Mind Clinic in Lajpat Nagar and at Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital in Saket.

Her areas of focus include child and adolescent psychology, anxiety and depression in adults, psychological assessments, and geriatric psychology. If your concern spans across generations in the same family, she’s a strong choice.

5. Ms Sulagna Mondal

Ms Sulagna Mondal is an RCI-registered Clinical Psychologist at BetterPlace Health with strong expertise across phobias, personality disorders, mood disorders, and midlife concerns.

She also works extensively with teenagers navigating identity, academic pressure, and emotional regulation, and provides LGBTQ-affirmative therapy in a safe, non-judgmental setting.

Her style combines structured psychoeducation with warmth, which makes her particularly good with clients who want to understand the “why” behind what they’re feeling, not just manage the symptoms.

How to choose the right clinical psychologist for you

A few practical things to keep in mind.

  • Start with credentials. RCI registration and an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology. Don’t skip this step.
  • Check what they specialise in. A psychologist who’s excellent with trauma may not be the best fit for OCD, and vice versa. Match their expertise to what you actually need help with.
  • Look at the therapy modality. Make sure that they’re using an evidence-based therapeutic approach and that you understand it.
  • Trust the fit. If after two or three sessions you don’t feel heard or understood, it’s perfectly okay to switch. The right therapist in Delhi for you is one you can actually open up to.
  • Consider integrated care. If your concern may also need medication or psychiatric input, a clinic where psychologists and psychiatrists work together will save you time and give you better outcomes.
  • Logistics matter. Online options, appointment availability, and accessibility shape whether you’ll actually stick with therapy long enough for it to work.

Closing thoughts

Delhi has more qualified clinical psychologists today than at any point in its history. But qualifications only get you so far. The right psychologist for you is the one whose approach matches your needs and whose presence makes it easier, not harder, to be honest about what you’re going through.

Take the time to find both. Therapy is a long journey, and the right starting point makes all the difference.
