Sujoy Mukherjee’s short film Hunar has received the prestigious Best Social Film award at the 16th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival 2026, further strengthening its growing reputation in the international short film circuit. The film has emerged as a powerful cinematic work that combines emotional storytelling with a socially relevant message.

Centered on the issue of parental expectations and children’s personal ambitions, Hunar explores how societal and family pressures can often overshadow individuality. The film presents this sensitive subject with realism and emotional depth, making it relatable for audiences across different backgrounds.

The performances by Rohit Bose Roy, Madhurima Tuli, and Vidhan Sharma have been widely appreciated for bringing authenticity and emotional intensity to the narrative. Their impactful portrayals add strength to the film’s message and enhance its emotional appeal.

Written and directed by Sujoy Mukherjee, with screenplay support from Sunil Kapoor and Ajita Kale, the film successfully balances meaningful storytelling with cinematic simplicity. The screenplay and dialogues effectively communicate the emotional conflict without becoming overly dramatic.

With more than 25 awards to its credit, Hunar has already earned recognition at several renowned festivals, including the Nashik International Film Festival, Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival, Delhi Shorts International Film Festival, Indian Panorama International Film Festival, and Babasaheb Ambedkar International Film Festival.

Beyond its festival achievements, the film has also sparked conversations about parenting, freedom of choice, and personal identity. Its universal theme and honest storytelling have helped it connect deeply with viewers worldwide.

The latest honor at the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival highlights not only the film’s artistic excellence but also the growing importance of socially driven cinema. As Hunar continues its successful journey, it stands as a strong example of how short films can create meaningful social impact through powerful storytelling.
