At the box office, it is a quiet and busy weekend, as is usually seen before a big festival. At the same time, Sahit Mothkhuri’s film Pottel is released in cinemas. The film stars Chandra Krishna in the lead role and also stars popular actress Ananya Nagra in a pivotal role. Ajay, who has received critical acclaim and made a name for himself in pop culture with films like Mathu Vadhalara 2 and Devara, plays the main antagonist of the film.
About the story
Pottel is the story of a village on the Telangana-Maharashtra border that is based on superstitions related to education. Gangadhar (played by the young Chandra Krishna) comes from a backward community and is not allowed to go to school. Ganga lost his twin brother at a young age due to illiteracy in his family. Due to the lack of education in the city, people believe that all the deaths due to cholera in the village are due to the wrath of the local goddess. The village is ruled by generations of landlords called Patels who go to special stages called siggam to convey the message of Goddess Balaamma to the people.
In this film, Ajay plays the role of a village Patel who uses the villagers’ belief in the Siggam custom for his own purposes and makes them illiterate and stupid. The conflict in the film begins when Ganga wants to educate his young daughter Saraswati. The story highlights the need to eradicate social evils and combat exploitation through education.
Actors
Chandra Krishna plays a true human being in the role of Ganga. Ganga is a modest person who wants the best for his family and the people of the village. Ananya Nagalla plays Ganga’s wife Bujjamma. She has given a commendable performance as a rural woman.
Ajay appears as the villain in the film Pottel who impresses everyone with his strong acting, but due to the weak script of the villain, his full potential could not emerge. Srikanth Iyengar plays a village teacher whose character evolves interestingly throughout the film.
