Mumbai: Despite high prices, a total of 21 to 22 tonnes of gold was sold in the country on Akshaya Tritiya. Earlier sales were estimated at 25 tonnes. Chairman of All India Gems and JeweleryJewelry Domestic Council, Sanyam Mehra said, in terms of quantity, this time the same amount of gold has been sold as during Akshaya Tritiya last year.
However, there has been an increase in sales in terms of value. The main reason for this is the rise in gold prices by about 22 percent in a year. South India had the highest share of 40 percent in the total sales of gold across the country. About 25 percent of gold was sold in Western India, 20 percent in Eastern India, and 15 percent in North India.
