Nirbhaya case : During the hearing of the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, the victim’s mother wept in court on Wednesday. The court deferred hearing on their appeal of the new death warrant till Thursday.
Asha Devi’s patience in the court was broken when the court accepted the request for legal assistance to one of the accused Pawan Gupta.
Asha Devi demanded issuance of new death warrants for the four accused and said, “I have been coming here for one and a half years and waiting how they are taking advantage of the legal paths.” I also have some rights. I request you to issue a death warrant.
Pawan Gupta’s father said in front of the court that no lawyer wants to contest his case so he needs more time.
The court then offered him legal aid, to which the victim’s father objected, but Judge Dharmendra Rana said that he had to follow the law.
The court postponed the hearing till Thursday, after which angry Asha Devi walked out of the court.
