I knew that if it ever happened, it would be the BJP government, but it was not expected at all.” This is to say the veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad. He expressed such astonishment in response to a question on the abrogate of article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. He said that he did not expect the Modi government to take a major step like removing Article 370. Azad also said in an interview to a news channel that the Gandhi family and the Congress cannot be separated from each other and the Congress has no future beyond the Gandhi family.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, who became the center of attraction after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s praise in the Rajya Sabha, expressed another surprise about Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “I could not think in life that Jammu and Kashmir was made a UT (Union Territory)”. When asked why the Modi government should have done this, what do they think, he said that it has been done to degrade a particular state. Azad said, “This is an attempt to humiliate a particular state, degrade it.” He claimed that political stability will not come until statehood is given back to Jammu and Kashmir.
“Congress and Gandhi family cannot be separated”
Is the Gandhi family not responsible for the Congress’s plight because Sonia Gandhi has been leading the party for 18 years? Can’t Congress be made president of the Gandhi family? Ghulam Nabi said in response, “Even today, if Gandhi will replace the family and replace the other (Congress President), even then there will be no work.” It will not happen until we strengthen the party at every level and all this can be done only through elections.
