An IFS officer, Praveen Kaswan, had informed the people about this special sweet honey of Sundarbans through a tweet. In fact in the tweet he mentioned a recent report which was about the purity of honey found in the market. Kaswan had given the information of Banful honey with this.
In his tweet the officer had mentioned all these things from the specialty of this honey to how customers can buy this honey.
Just a day after his post, Kaswan informed that the demand for honey was so high that the honey has been out of stock. According to him honey sold so much in one day, it used to take months to sell. At the same time, another IAS officer MV Rao also tweeted about the high sales of the beautiful Sundarbans honey.
What is unique about Sundarbans honey? The honey from the mangrove forest of the Sundarbans is called Banphal wild honey. The West Bengal government has created a separate brand to sell Banful. According to the IFS officer, these honey is collected by the traditional honey collectors of the Sundarbans. He is assisted by the Joint Forest Management Committee, which is a cooperative. These cooperatives not only provide livelihood to the local people but also help in conservation.
